Orsola Hospital Background Differential diagnosis cardiac masses represents a challenging issue with important implications for therapeutic management and patient’s prognosis. Cardiac Magnetic Resonance (CMR) is non-invasive imaging technique used to characterize morphologic functional features masses. Integration these information can lead an accurate diagnosis. Purpose To evaluate the diagnostic role CMR in defining nature Methods : Ninety-three patients evaluated were enrolled. All had histological certainty. sequences allowed qualitative description as well tissue characterization. Evaluation morphology included localization, size borders assessment, detection potential multiple lesions pericardial effusion. Tissue characterization resulted from estimation contrast enhancement - early gadolinium (EGE) late (LGE) homogeneity T1 T2 weighted acquisitions. The descriptive analysis was carried out by comparing benign vs malignant dividing into 4 subgroups: primitive tumours, metastatic tumours pseudotumours. Results showed that diameter > 50mm, invasion surrounding planes, irregular margins presence effusion able predict malignancy (p < 0.001). As characteristics, heterogeneous signal intensity independently acquisitions EGE more common <0.001). When analysing four subgroups, did not discriminate between metastasis. Conversely, hyperintensity distinguish pseudotumors = 0.002). Furthermore, using classification regression tree (CART) analysis, we developed algorithm differentiate masses: planes characteristic identifies itself tumors. In absence invasive features, evaluated: lack uptake exclude pseudotumor reduced probability primary tumor. Conclusions magnetic resonance very powerful tool differential it correctly addresses malignancy. evaluation several may Figure. Benign

Magnetic Resonance Imaging Evaluation of Cardiac Masses

BACKGROUND Cardiac tumors are extremely rare; however, when there is clinical suspicion, proper diagnostic evaluation is necessary to plan the most appropriate treatment. In this context, cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging (CMRI) plays an important role, allowing a comprehensive characterization of such lesions. OBJECTIVE To review cases referred to a CMRI Department for investigation ...

Cardiac and Hepatic T2*-Weighted Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Abstract Background Iron overload is the main transfusion related side effects in patients with transfusion dependent hemoglobinopathies. Severe iron deposition in tissues leads to organ dysfunction. Many organs can be affected such as heart, liver, and endocrine organs. Cardiac failure and liver fibrosis are the consequent of Iron overload in transfusion dependent hemoglobinopathy. Magne...

DNA Damages on Blood Cells After Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Introduction: Along with the increased use of cardiac imaging at clinics there is increased attention to the potential risks related to the methods used like magnetic resonance (MR) and it cannot be ruled out that MR can alter DNA structure. The aim of this review is to assess the impact of routine cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) scanning on DNA damages in human T lymphocytes....

Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Cardiac Diagnosis

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a diagnostic imaging technique that uses a magnetic field and radio waves rather than xrays to produce highly detailed images of internal organs and tissues. Because of the high contrast sensitivity to soft tissue and the safety to the patient resulting from the use of nonionizing radiation, MRI has replaced many CT methods. The technique has proven very valu...
